Rangers will look to add more quality in the January transfer market with Phillipe Clement hoping to add players of his own.
Midfield is an area of the squad that needs some work as the Gers boss looks to improve the balance and compensate for those that might be leaving Ibrox.
Nils Koppen will have his own contacts but it looks as though former Rangers captain and assistant manager David Weir is trying to do Philippe Clement a favour as a new name emerges as a potential transfer option.

Rangers given midfield option for Philippe Clement additions
John Lundstram and Ryan Jack are out of contract in the summer which leaves Nicolas Raskin, Jose Cifuentes, Kieran Dowell and now Dujon Sterling as our midfield group.
They have all shown the potential to be good players for Rangers but there is a definite need for someone who can dictate the tempo, even if Lundstram is offered a new deal.
Step forward David Weir.
According to Belgian outlet La Derniere Heure, Rangers have been given the chance to sign Colombian midfielder Steven Alzate for Philippe Clement’s squad.
Capped seven times, the 25-year old was actually born in London and played for his country as recently as the autumn international break in 2022 despite being out on loan.
Alzate has made over 50 Premier League appearances for the Seagulls but has spent the last 18-months at Standard Liege and now has a decision to make.
He is supposed to be on loan until the end of this season but with his contract at Brighton ticking down, Weir appears to be keen to get a fee in this transfer window rather than lose a talented player for nothing.
If Rangers wanted to, they could sign Alzate on a pre-contract agreement which would strengthen Philippe Clement’s hand, although with Brighton actively trying to secure a permanent exit, they aren’t exactly entering negotiations from a position of strength.
There is an option for another year but there is no sign of this having been taken up yet.
Alzate is clearly a talented player available for a potential bargain but there will have to be homework done on whether or not he is a good fit.
Clement will have plenty of people to speak to about Alzate’s time in Belgium so this could be a transfer that happens quickly, if he likes what he hears.
