Rangers continue to work tirelessly behind the scenes to bring players into Ibrox and ship others out this transfer window.

This January will see the club take another step forward as they look to evolve the Gers squad and there’s plenty of Rangers transfer chatter doing the rounds.

Here’s the latest transfer news coming out of Ibrox on your Rangers News transfer bulletin for Thursday 23rd of January.

Rabbi Matondo Coventry transfer off

Rabbi Matondo looked to be closing in on a transfer to Championship side Coventry City but the loan-to-buy deal now appears to have collapsed.

Rangers News were informed that negotiations between Matondo and Coventry had cooled due to disagreements with performance bonuses attached to the deal.

Sky Sports are now reporting the deal is off the table but Rangers remain eager to ship the high-earner out of Ibrox after a disappointing two and a half years in Glasgow.

Archie Stevens left out as Rangers contract talks stall

Highly-rated Rangers academy starlet Archie Stevens has been left out of Rangers’ squad to face Manchester United as a dispute rumbles over a new contract.

England youth international Stevens has been linked to the likes of Brighton and Wolves and Rangers News believes the 19-year-old is now set to leave the club.

Stevens isn’t part of the Manchester travelling party and could leave Rangers this month with interest in the Scottish Championship.

Tom Lawrence to face Man United

Tom Lawrence looked set to move to Besiktas only a week ago but now the Rangers playmaker will be included in the squad to face Manchester United.

Philippe Clement confirmed the 31-year-old Welshman is back in Rangers training and will be part of the selection for the Europa League trip to Old Trafford.

“Tom Lawrence is in the squad,” Clement said ahead of the game. “He trained now the first time two days in a row with the squad.

“He comes, of course, after a long injury. So it’s not that he can play a lot of minutes tomorrow.

“ I think it’s a really nice moment for him also to be back in the squad, to be back in Manchester, his home city, and to be in the club where he played in the academy.

“So it was good also that we could bring him with the squad today.”

Cyriel Dessers wanted in Italy

Cyriel Dessers is another high-profile name who could leave Rangers this January and there is growing interest in the hitman across Europe.

Philippe Clement admitted Dessers could leave Ibrox before the window closes and now there have been fresh links to Italian club Monza this week.

Cyriel Dessers has also been strongly linked with a winter move to Cagliari in Italy, whilst Saint Etienne in France and Leganes in Spain remain keen.

Morgan Whittaker in Plymouth no show

Long-term Rangers target Morgan Whittaker has been criticised by Plymouth’s new manager Miron Muslic for failing to show up for a clash with Burnley.

Rangers have had a string of bids turned down for the Home Park forward, who looks to be trying to force a move out of the Pilgrims this month.

There is no talk of fresh Rangers interest however, with Burnley and Hull City reportedly having bids turned down.

Rangers ‘don’t have the money’ to sign Vaclav Cerny

Reports in Germany have claimed that Rangers ‘don’t have the money’ to sign Vaclav Cerny on a permanent deal from Wolfsburg.

The Czech winger, 27, has scored 12 goals on loan at Rangers this season but Wolfsburg’s asking price of £8m is believed to be out of the Gers’ price range.

Cerny is however expected to leave the German club permanently after Wolfsburg announced the signing of Danish winger Andreas Skov Olsen.

Darius Olaru suffers serious injury

Romanian playmaker Darius Olaru is never too far away from Rangers links but it doesn’t look like the FCSB will be making the switch to Ibrox any time soon.

That’s because the Romanian club have confirmed that Olaru has suffered a serious injury which has effectively ended his season.

Issac Price moves to West Brom

Rangers were linked with a move for Isaac Price at the turn of the year but reports surrounding the Northern Ireland international were eventually shut down.

Any lingering suggestion Rangers could move for the Standard Liege star has also been extinguished as Price officially moves to West Bromwich Albion.

Reports in France earlier in the week had suggested Marseille are ‘seriously considering’ a move for Rangers striker Hamza Igamane.

It comes with the Ligue 1 giants set to lose French striker Elye Wahi to Eintracht Frankfurt following the sale of Omar Marmoush to Manchester City.

After City confirmed the signing of Marmoush, the Bundesliga side are now stepping up their £25m interest in Wahi.
