Rangers remain “keen” on signing Feyenoord striker Danilo despite the club reportedly closing in on Cremonese hitman Cyriel Dessers.

That’s according to Ibrox insiders and club media partners Heart & Hand, with podcast host David Edgar discussing the situation surrounding the striker on the platform’s Daily Update (03/04).

The outlet also claimed that Feyenoord are ready to climb down from the £7m valuation attached to Danilo after news broke of a Rangers bid last week.

The news comes with Rangers closing in on a deal for Belgian-born Nigerian international Cyriel Dessers, with a medical underway amid reports of a £4.3m move.

“[The interest in Cyriel Dessers] has led to some discussion as to whether or not Rangers will pursue the other striker who’s been mentioned a lot and that is Danilo, the Feyenoord striker,” said David Edgar.

“Initial reports in Holland suggested that they were after round about €8m (£7m) but it looks as though they would take a bit less and that was just an early negotiating position.

“Obviously we need to see whether or not Rangers pursue this but my understanding of it is that Rangers are very much interested in Danilo.

“That’s also the understanding of the press both here and in Holland, that Rangers are still interested in the player.

“That kind of surprises me a little bit if I’m being totally honest, but Rangers are still keen to pursue the player and bring him in.

“I think in an ideal world Rangers would like to move people out first but Rangers yes, still talking to Feyenoord, still keen to make that one happen as well.”

Rangers retain Danilo striker interest

It’s an interesting nod to players potentially leaving Rangers too, with the transfer situation surrounding Danilo intensified by the presence of the likes of Antonio Colak and Rabbi Matondo at the club.

Rangers have also moved for Sam Lammers and Abdallah Sima in the attacking positions and with the addition of Cyriel Dessers, now have a number of options up top.

There’s no doubt that the club could use another more reliable striking option and it is a major statement of intent to supporters if Rangers sign both Danilo and Cyriel Dessers in this window.
