Opinion: 14-goal striker is asking to join Rangers but Ibrox move seems tricky

Rangers want Feyenoord striker Danilo and he is understood to want the move – but it now seems a little complicated.

The Gers are closing in on a third attacking signing of the summer.

Sam Lammers and Abdallah Sima are already on board with Cremonese forward Cyriel Dessers now set to arrive too.

For those who may think that Rangers’ attacking overhaul is done, there may still be one more deal in the pipeline.

Heart and Hand claimed over the weekend that Rangers still want Danilo even with Dessers seemingly arriving.

The Daily Record now report that Feyenoord striker Danilo has asked to leave the club as he chases a move to Ibrox.

That’s great news for Rangers but committing to a deal for the Brazilian may now be a little tricky.

Danilo to Rangers may be trickier now

Rangers have been placing a real focus on adding attacking options this summer.

Dessers and Lammers are costing millions whilst Sima is another option who can play all across the front line.

Committing more money to another striker seems a little unlikely as things stand, especially with a centre back – probably Jonathan Panzo – still wanted too.

Danilo may need one or two players to leave Ibrox before a move to Glasgow becomes a realistic option again.

Antonio Colak would be the obvious candidate, just a year since joining Rangers from PAOK.

Werder Bremen are thought to be keen on Colak, but a departure doesn’t seem particularly advanced as things stand.

Then there is Kemar Roofe, who has bags of ability but his injury problems mean he has become somewhat unreliable in the Rangers attack.

If Rangers receive a decent offer for Roofe this summer, you could hardly blame them for considering selling.

Selling Colak – or maybe even Roofe – to clear room for Danilo’s arrival certainly make sense but may take some time.

Is Danilo willing to wait for that? It’s hard to tell, but he may have wanted this move in the belief that Rangers were struggling to land Dessers.

Now the Nigerian is coming in, Danilo may have to go on the back burner in the hope that departures take place.

Rabbi Matondo is another player in the final third who could be moved on, especially with Sima able to play out wide.

Seeing Danilo – who just bagged 14 goals in all competitions for Feyenoord last season – join Rangers would be hugely exciting.

Those attacking options would give Rangers the kind of firepower needed to really push Celtic moving forward.

Danilo to Rangers just doesn’t feel imminent with Dessers coming in though, but we live in hope of seeing him join the Beale revolution.
