Rangers are eyeing a second raid on Hearts this summer, with Cammy Devlin emerging as a target in the wake of Lawrence Shankland’s arrival.
Having already secured a deal to sign the Hearts captain on what is understood to be a free transfer, the Light Blues appear intent on further exploiting their rivals’ difficult summer as they reshape the Ibrox squad.
Devlin would represent a very different kind of signing to Shankland, but one that fits largely within the philosophy Andrew Cavenagh has outlined for the summer rebuild.
The Australia international is exactly the kind of player Danny Rohl was heard demanding in the Tynecastle tunnel – a leader, a fighter, and someone who knows how to win games in Scottish football.

Rangers eye Devlin as Hearts face second summer blow
According to STV Radio host Ewen Cameron, a Hearts supporter himself, the Gers are plotting a move to sign Devlin on a free transfer when his contract expires this summer.
He revealed that he had received messages from multiple sources suggesting Rangers are weighing up a move for the midfielder.
Speaking on the STV Radio Football Show, he said: “A couple of pals messaged me saying Rangers are considering making a move for Devlin on a free.”

Devlin is drawing the curtain on a five-year spell at Tynecastle, meaning the Ibrox outfit can land him on a free transfer – the same financial logic that made the Shankland deal so appealing to Cavenagh and the board.
For Hearts, losing both their captain and one of their most combative midfielders to their rivals in the same window would be a devastating double blow, and the fact that both could depart for nothing will only deepen the frustration among their fans.

Signing Devlin makes sense on every level
For Rangers, the opportunity is obvious, as Devlin brings intensity, physicality, and an unrelenting work rate that has made him one of the most effective midfielders in the Premiership.
Those are qualities that have been conspicuously absent at Ibrox at times this season, thus making the 27-year-old an attractive target.
With Nicolas Raskin facing an uncertain future and questions hanging over the depth of Rohl‘s midfield options, Devlin’s arrival would address a genuine need while simultaneously weakening a direct rival.
While it remains to be seen if Rangers step up their interest in Devlin, James Penrice and Luke Graham are widely expected to join the club in due time.
