Rangers have made a £2.2million offer to sign Bryan Reynolds from Westerlo, it has emerged.

Signing a new right-back is high up the Light Blues’ transfer wishlist this summer following James Tavernier’s departure at the end of last season.

It emerged on Tuesday that Rangers are seriously considering a move for Reynolds, with Chris Jack confirming the club’s interest in the United States international.

Westerlo reject £2.2m bid for Reynolds

According to Sacha Tavolieri, Rangers have already made an offer worth £2.2m (€2.5m) for Reynolds.

However, that proposal has quickly been turned down by Westerlo, who have no intention of selling the 24-year-old for such an amount.

The Belgian club and the player prefer to part ways this window, as the defender only has a year remaining on his contract, but Rangers’ £2.2m bid remains insufficient.

While there is a feeling that other clubs may enter the race to sign the former AS Roma full-back, Danny Rohl‘s side need not worry.

Reynolds has already given his green light to a potential move to Ibrox this summer.

With more updates expected regarding this, it remains to be seen whether the Gers will increase their offer immediately.

The Govan club have other names in mind as they look to sign a new right-back, having held talks with the representatives of Hammarby’s Hampus Skoglund.

Meanwhile, Everton are willing to listen to offers for Nathan Patterson ahead of next season.

Why Rangers want to sign Reynolds

Reynolds bagged two goals and four assists in 40 appearances across all competitions for Westerlo in the recently concluded season.

It is evident that he would not be a like-for-like replacement for Tavernier, but it appears he ranks highly on Rangers‘ list of targets nevertheless.

The former FC Dallas talent has operated at left-back on occasion for Westerlo, thus making him more attractive to Rohl’s side.

It is worth noting that the German tactician is left with Tuur Rommens as his only senior left-back, meaning Reynolds’ signing would be welcome.

Speaking of Rommens, Rangers have experience negotiating with Westerlo, having signed the Belgian from them earlier this year.
