Rangers have taken a significant step forward in their pursuit of Hampus Skoglund, as they step up their hunt for a new right-back to replace James Tavernier.
Rangers News reported in May that Skoglund had been placed on the Light Blues’ transfer list as the club search for a long-term successor to Tavernier, who departed Ibrox at the end of the season.
The pursuit has now moved to the next level, with direct contact now established between Rangers and those representing the Hammarby defender.
The development confirms that the Gers’ interest in Skoglund is serious, and the club are actively working to bring him to Ibrox ahead of the new season.
A four-man shortlist has been drawn up to replace James Tavernier…

Rangers hold talks with Skoglund camp
Rangers News understand that the Premiership heavyweights have met with Skoglund’s representatives to discuss a potential transfer, a significant escalation from the behind-the-scenes work we previously reported was underway.
One source indicated that there has been more than one meeting between the two parties, suggesting that the Glaswegian outfit are ready to step up their interest further.
Skoglund is contracted to Hammarby until 2029, having signed a fresh deal last year, but Rangers would be confident of luring him to Scotland.

Danny Rohl‘s side are aware of potential competition from elsewhere and have moved to establish direct dialogue with the player’s camp in order to progress their own pursuit.
Skoglund himself addressed speculation regarding his future recently, telling Fotbollskanalen that interest from abroad was “fun” to see, but that he was leaving transfer matters entirely in the hands of his agents.

Andrew Cavenagh has made some bold promises!
What happens next
Skoglund fits the profile Rangers have been targeting – technically capable, comfortable in possession, and with the athleticism to contribute both defensively and in attack.
With Stig Inge Bjornebye’s Scandinavian connections playing an increasingly prominent role in recruitment, interest in the Swede comes as little surprise.
With talks now opened between the Ibrox outfit and Skoglund’s representatives, the coming weeks will be crucial in determining whether the club can turn their interest into a concrete offer.
Andrew Cavenagh, Dan Purdy and Rohl have other pressing matters to address first, meaning this may drag out slightly longer.
