Rangers have made a move to sign Hampus Skoglund from Hammarby this summer.

The Light Blues have been working behind the scenes to explore a move for the Swedish right-back, with Rangers News exclusively revealing that Skoglund has been placed on the club’s transfer list as they seek a long-term successor to James Tavernier.

Schalke have also been credited with interest in the 22-year-old, meaning the Ibrox outfit face competition from Germany if they are to win the race for his signature.

However, Skoglund’s latest comments suggest his attention is elsewhere.

Skoglund responds to Rangers interest

Skoglund has now addressed the speculation linking him to Rangers directly, admitting it is flattering to attract interest from abroad, while making clear it is not something he is allowing to occupy his thoughts.

With the Swedish football season still ongoing, the defender insisted that his attention remains on helping Hammarby put points on the board.

Speaking to Fotbollskanalen, he said: “It’s, of course, fun to see that there is interest, but it’s not something I focus on. I focus on training and matches.”

Asked to elaborate further on the interest from clubs, including Rangers, Skoglund remained coy, saying: “I let my agent handle it, I focus on performing.”

However, the Sweden Under-21s international revealed that he has held talks with Hammarby’s sporting director Mikael Hjelmberg over a potential transfer this summer, suggesting the Swedish club are aware of the interest and are engaged in discussions about his future.

He said: “Yes, we’ve talked a bit back and forth.”

Which area should Rangers prioritise on strengthening this summer? 🤔

Andrew Cavenagh has made some bold promises!

What it means for Gers

Skoglund’s measured response is that of a player comfortable in his own skin.

The summer is long, and the right-back appears content to let events unfold at their own pace.

For Danny Rohl‘s side, the Swede’s relaxed stance is a double-edged sword. On one hand, there is no suggestion that he is pushing for a move, which could complicate negotiations with Hammarby, especially amid competition from Schalke.

On the other hand, his openness to dialogue and the ongoing conversations with club officials suggest a transfer is far from off the table.

With Tavernier gone and the right-back position a clear priority, Andrew Cavenagh will need to move decisively if they are serious about landing their man.
