Rangers have been handed a boost in their pursuit of Nathan Patterson this summer after what Paul Joyce said about the Everton right-back.

Signing a new right-back is high on the Light Blues’ transfer wishlist this window, with James Tavernier’s departure leaving Danny Rohl short of options in the position.

Dujon Sterling is Rangers’ only available senior right-back after Max Aarons also returned to Bournemouth following his loan spell.

The Govan club have held talks with the representatives of Hampus Skoglund, as exclusively revealed by Rangers News, but Hammarby sporting director Mikael Hjelmberg maintains that they have not had any contact for the Swede.

A four-man shortlist has been drawn up to replace James Tavernier…

We believe Hampus Skoglund is the ideal candidate. Let us know what you think!

Everton listening to offers for Patterson

Patterson is another player Rangers are being linked with this summer, with a return to Ibrox mooted for the 24-year-old following his struggles on Merseyside.

The Toffees themselves are short of options at right-back, as Seamus Coleman’s exit has left Jake O’Brien as their only option in the position, apart from Patterson.

However, David Moyes’s side have set their sights on signing a new right-sided full-back this summer, according to Paul Joyce.

The ever-reliable Everton journalist, writing in The Times, revealed that the club are already assessing Atalanta’s Raoul Bellanova, among others.

Furthermore, it has emerged that Everton are also listening to offers for Patterson, as they look to revamp their options at right-back.

Rangers should be wary of Patterson

Patterson was backed to go straight to the top when he swapped Rangers for Everton in a deal worth £16million in 2022.

However, things have not gone according to plan for the Scotland international, with persistent injuries hindering his progress in England.

Therefore, a return to Glasgow might be just what the defender needs to revive his career as he enters the peak years of his career.

However, Rohl‘s side must resist the temptation to sign Patterson just because of that connection.

The German tactician is not in a position to be able to afford a player being consistently injured in his squad.

That is why the Andrew Cavenagh-run club must think twice before re-signing the former Ibrox fan favourite.
