Rangers-linked Premiership rival quashes £3.5m exit reports

Perennially Rangers-linked Aberdeen midfielder Lewis Ferguson has quashed Serie A exit talk as he laughs off links to relegation battling Cagliari.

Reports coming out of Italy had suggested in the week that the Italian club had launched a loan-to-buy £3.5m bid for Lewis Ferguson with Rangers fans naturally interested.

The midfielder, 22, has been routinely linked to Ibrox throughout his career and many supporters view the Scotland international as a future Rangers star.

The son of ex-Ger Derek and nephew of former captain Barry, for some supporters it just feels right that a Ferguson struts his stuff at Ibrox.

But the news that Cagliari had launched a bid was laughed off by Aberdeen boss Stephen Glass after the 1-1 draw with Rangers and now Lewis Ferguson has been talking about the interest.

“I don’t know anything about it – and I don’t speak any other languages!” said Ferguson.

“I saw it the way you guys have seen it, and I haven’t had much time to think about it.

“I saw it late on Monday night and I’ve had the game to focus on since then.

“But I’m an Aberdeen player just now and I’ll be focused on playing for Aberdeen for the foreseeable future, unless something happens.”

Rangers have been routinely linked with a move for Lewis Ferguson and the midfielder even handed in a transfer request this summer.

But it wasn’t down to the Ibrox links that the midfielder wanted out of Pittodrie as Premier League Watford came calling.

Aberdeen were left unimpressed with the transfer fee however, with the Dons throwing out a reported £2m offer [Scottish Sun].

Whilst Rangers have been linked in the past, as things stand the Gers do not appear to have made the interest in the midfielder concrete, with Lewis Ferguson contracted to Aberdeen until 2024.

Speaking of Rangers and transfers, the news that a high-profile target could be available for £4m will pique the interest of supporters.
