In-demand Rangers linked player Lewis Ferguson has handed in a transfer request at Aberdeen [Afc.co.uk].

The Scotland U21 international, who is the son of former Rangers player Derek Ferguson and nephew of Gers hero Barry Ferguson, scored ten goals and notched five assists from 41 Dons appearances this season.

Ferguson has been regularly linked with a move to Ibrox in recent years and earlier this week, the Scottish Sun reported that the Light Blues were monitoring his situation closely.

It was stated that Premier League-bound Watford had seen a £2m bid rejected and were considering an improved offer, with Rangers waiting in the wings.

Now, Aberdeen have confirmed that the player has expressed his desire to leave Pittodrie.

‘Aberdeen Football Club is greatly disappointed to have received a written transfer request from midfielder Lewis Ferguson today,’ read a club statement on Wednesday.

‘This request, made after the Club dismissed what can only be described as an insulting offer from an English Premier League club for one of Scotland’s most talented young midfield players, was rejected immediately.

‘The Club holds Lewis in the highest regard. Having made a significant investment to both acquire and develop Lewis, he has a bright future ahead of him as an integral part of Stephen Glass’s squad.’

It seems that the Dons are determined to hold onto the ex-Hamilton starlet, who is contracted until 2024, but it remains to be seen whether they will really be able to resist cashing in if the likes of Watford up the ante or Rangers swoop in with a big bid.

In other news, Bears have waxed lyrical about a Rangers player still going the extra mile in the gym despite the season finishing at the weekend.
