As Rangers fans urge the club to freshen up their squad this January, could reports Bologna want £4m for Andreas Skov Olsen pique the interest of Ibrox bosses?
The Danish winger, 22, has been routinely linked to Rangers over the last few windows but only a few days ago did a potential Ibrox move look dead amid £5m links to Club Brugge.
But after Skov Olsen was a second half substitute for Serie A side Bologna in a recent defeat to Napoli, it had some Rangers fans wondering if those reports were a tad premature.
Now, Tutto Mercato Web are claiming that the Rossoblù are ready to offload the winger for a £4m fee this window in order to fund – wait for it – a move for Aberdeen talent Calvin Ramsay.
Scottish youngsters in Serie A are somewhat in vogue, a trend started by ex-Celtic and Hibs kid Liam Henderson of Empoli and solidified by the early success of now Bologna left-back Aaron Hickey.
Perennially Rangers-linked Lewis Ferguson is another who has been tipped to make the switch to Bel Paese with Cagliari but for Ibrox fans it’s the situation with Skov Olsen that will catch their eye.
Bologna winger Andreas Skov Olsen move can breathe new life into Rangers
Early reports that Rangers had submitted a bid for the Danish international winger were refuted by the club via reputable media partners Heart & Hand and since then links have been tenuous.
Even the Daily Record – not exactly close to Rangers but potentially close enough to those in the know in Italy – reckon any potential Gers interest is still little more than embers at this stage.
But for Rangers fans still licking their wounds following the disappointment of the draw with Aberdeen, something sharpened after three weeks without their beloved side, a statement signing to breathe new life into the squad is something they’re craving.
Rangers fans don’t want squad players to prop up an already bloated team and have seen their side only bolstered and not outrighted enhanced in the last few windows.
With a £30m+ Champions League jackpot up for grabs for this year’s Scottish Premiership winner, a marquee signing who fans will immediately take to, and who can immediately make an impression, would be a welcome addition.
In Andreas Skov Olsen there is a player who has impressed in Danish football at FC Nordsjælland (27 goals in 51 games) and with his national side (six goals in 15 caps) and someone the fans are already on side with who occupies an area long identified as a problem one at Ibrox.
It’s known that he’s open to leaving Italy and with the £12m+ Nathan Patterson deal boosting the Ibrox coffers, the reported £4m for such a player doesn’t seem too bad an investment.
This is working on the notion that this fee – coming from a report in Italy – is genuinely accurate and Rangers haven’t already been priced out of a move.
Plus, it just feels right that a direct, potentially potent Danish winger in the mould of Laudrup and Lovenkrands could be the one who excites the fans and strikes fear back into our rivals.
Speaking of potential new Rangers signings, another European talent has been discussing his own ambitions with the Gers in a “strong position” regarding his future.
