Rangers are leaving it late if they hope to bring in any new players this January transfer window.
The Ibrox side are five days out from the window ‘slamming shut’ and so far have brought only Lille defender Rafael Fernandes into the club.
The focus instead has been on shifting the dead weight with Kieran Dowell leaving Ibrox and the likes of Rabbi Matondo and Tom Lawrence expected to follow.
But despite the lack of transfer stimulation at Ibrox, Rangers do remain keen on bringing Dundee midfielder Lyall Cameron to the club this January.
Rangers in talks with Lyall Cameron
Reports earlier in the window claimed that Rangers are in talks with Lyall Cameron with the Dundee midfielder in the final six months of his contract.
Dundee manager Tony Docherty admitted the player was assessing his options but claims that there is yet to be any official approach for the 22-year-old.
It comes after Rangers CEO Patrick Stewart admitted the Gers could ‘accelerate’ the signing of a pre-planned player this January.
In theory, Rangers could agree a pre-contract with Lyall Cameron and then negotiate his early release from Dundee by paying a transfer fee.
Philippe Clement has previously praised the midfielder, describing Cameron as a ‘decisive’ player ahead of a Scottish Premiership clash this season.
Cameron has 15 goal contributions this season, scoring eight goals and laying on seven assists for Dundee.
Rangers ‘retain strong interest’ in Dundee star
With the likes of Aberdeen also linked to Cameron the general transfer chatter around and the midfielder has gone cold in recent days.
But that doesn’t mean Rangers aren’t still working on a deal for Lyall Cameron with the Ibrox side still very much interested in the player.
As explained by the Rangers Review earlier in the week, Rangers ‘retain a strong interest’ in agreeing a pre-contract deal with Lyall Cameron.

Whether that will result in the Dundee star making the switch to Ibrox this January remains to be seen but it’s clear the player is a target for the Ibrox side.
Lyall Cameron has been a stand out for Dundee this season and fits with Nils Koppen’s pledge to sign one homegrown Premiership star per season.
