Rangers have been linked with several players in this transfer window and Josh Doig is the name currently in the headlines.
The 21-year old is one of several left-backs being linked with the futures of Ridvan Yilmaz and Borna Barisic both up in the air.
The Turkey international is mooted to be heading to Hellas Verona, Josh Doig’s club but the former Hibernian defender could have been at Rangers a while ago, according to Gary McAllister.

Rangers have been keeping tabs on Josh Doig for a while
The ex-Gers assistant boss was speaking to Boyle Sports about recent speculation that has seen Doig named as a potential target with a price tag said to be a hefty £5.2m.
McAllister has backed the move but Rangers could have saved themselves an awful lot of money if they hadn’t let Josh Doig go to Italy in the summer of 2022.
“Josh Doig has been on Rangers radar for a while as he was a standout player at Hibernian.
“He’s a very modern full-back who’s very athletic and loves to bomb forward. He’ll gain experience on the defensive side of things as he develops.
“That’s his main role, but you can never stop a young player from wanting to gallop forward and join in. It’s no surprise to see Rangers after him.
“Borna Barisic has been at the club since 2018, and he’s been a fantastic servant for the club. I think Doig would offer some fresh legs and he’d be a good signing for most clubs.”

When Doig was “on Rangers radar” Steven Gerrard already had Barisic and Calvin Bassey at his disposal.
Even when Doig left Hibs to go to Verona, both were still doing their thing at Ibrox and a key part of the squad.
Times change though and if Rangers can get what they paid for Ridvan and bring Doig in for a similar fee then the manager will probably be happy with that business.
The issue of Barisic’s contract is another story which will probably only be solved in the summer.
Recruitment isn’t just about the manager, if the team at Auchenhowie has done its homework on Josh Doig in the past and updated Rangers file on the talented young Scot, then it makes sense to see his name mentioned again.
The only question is, have they already missed the boat?
