Rangers fans have been urged to “stand down” with the club’s transfer deadline day culminating in the signing of Oscar Cortes.

The Gers have officially announced a loan-to-buy deal for the young Colombian winger, who joins from Ligue 1 side RC Lens.

But with fans also hoping that a striker might be added before this evening’s 11:30pm deadline, club insiders Heart & Hand have cooled expectations.

Taking to social media platform X, they’ve told fans to “stand down” with Rangers’ transfer deadline day business now “done for the night”.

Rangers transfer deadline day now over

Rangers fans can now reflect on what’s been a busy January transfer window for Philippe Clement, coincidentally the Belgian’s first in charge.

Adding Portuguese talent Fabio Silva on loan until the end of the season from Wolves even before the window opened, it looked like the club was going to be quick about their January business.

But as things have transpired it’s taken us all the way to deadline day with the deal for Oscar Cortes coming after the club had also signed Mohamed Diomande.

Striking a reported £4.3m loan-to-buy deal from FC Nordsjælland, it’s perhaps the marquee deal of a productive window.

Going the other way, Sam Lammers has joined Utrecht on loan and Adam Devine has moved to Motherwell, with much speculation persisting around Jose Cifuentes and a move to Cruzeiro.

Ibrox striker risk

The one area of concern Rangers have concerns the striking berth, which was signposted as being short heading into January.

Some might argue that Fabio Silva can play in the position, but as things stand Rangers are going into the next phase of the season with really only Cyriel Dessers as a fit number 9.

With Danilo, Kemar Roofe, and Abdallah Sima all out injured for the foreseeable, it’s a situation which Philippe Clement will be hoping doesn’t blow up in his face.

Rangers are very much in a title race with Celtic this season and should the club fail to deliver in the final third, there will be hell to pay come the summer.

Links to Lawrence Shankland were eventually quashed by Hearts earlier in the evening.
