Rangers have announced the signing of Neraysho Kasanwirjo with Philippe Clement getting his transfer deadline day up and running.

It’s not quite been the “busy week” expected by the manager, however, he’ll need to have a phone charger nearby until the window shuts at 11pm.

Clement always wanted the squad to be judged once deadline day is over and with the signing of the 22-year old defender as the tenth of the summer, it already looks better.

Signed on an initial loan deal with a reported option to buy at the end of the season, Rangers are once again going down the try before they buy safety route.

Rangers sign Neraysho Kasanwirjo from Feyenoord

Capped by the Netherlands at Under-21 level, Kasanwirjo came through the youth ranks at Ajax and has also played for Groningen, with his most recent football coming at Rapid Vienna on loan last season.

Now though, the 6ft tall centre-half turned right-back is looking forward to getting started with Rangers He told the official Rangers website: “I’m very excited to join the club and play for the fans.

“I spoke with the coach who had a good feeling, and the most important thing for me is to play and help the team as much as I can.

“Rangers is a really big and traditional club. There are a lot of memories and you need to win games. I want to win and bring the level of the team up, so it’s a good step for me.”

Philippe Clement was equally as happy to sign a player whose name hadn’t been mentioned until he was on his way to Glasgow: “We are thrilled to welcome Neraysho to the football club and we believe he will be a big asset to the team.

“He can play in a number of defensive positions and will be a good option for the squad with the domestic and European commitments we have this campaign.

“He is looking forward to starting the next chapter in his career and we are pleased Neraysho has decided to join Rangers.”

Kasanwirjo one for the future who could challenge stalwart

Like Clinton Nsiala, Kasanwirjo is a player who is capable of playing for the first team now, but with one eye being kept firmly on the future.

Kasanwirjo is more experienced in terms of senior football though and his near 30 appearances for Rapid last season were a great example of what he is capable of.

With great defensive awareness, Kasanwirjo isn’t short of pace and is comfortable on the ball.

He has a similar profile to Dujon Sterling, however, he isn’t quite as physical in terms of his athleticism.

What advantage he does have though, is how confident he is using his weaker left foot.

Rangers fans have seen the difference that Jefte has made on the left-hand side with his running power and it will be hoped that Kasanwirjo gets the chance to demonstrate his on the right.

Obviously, this means that James Tavernier’s place might not be as safe and secure as it once was.
