Rangers are reportedly looking to bolster their backline but defender Danilho Doekhi appeared to hint that he won’t be leaving Vitesse Arnhem this January.
The Gers have already secured the pre-contract signing of Hearts defender John Souttar and have had a bid rejected to take him to Ibrox this January.
The situation remains ongoing with one journalist believing that Rangers signing the centre-back – who was dropped for Hearts’ win over Auchinleck Talbot – is “only a matter of time”.
But interest in Danilho Doekhi – the 23-year-old Vitesse captain with Dutch U21 experience – has also been ratified by the likes of the Athletic.
They believe that Rangers are in a “strong position” when it comes to the defender, whose contract is expiring at the end of the season.
Danilho Doekhi himself has also spoken about Rangers’ interest in the past, and for all intents and purposes appears very open to a move to Ibrox.
But with the likes of Serie A side Napoli and Croatian champions Dinamo Zagreb also linked, Rangers aren’t the only suitors for the defender.
Rangers target Danilho Doekhi targeting February success with Vitesse Arnhem
Any suggestion the Ibrox side could move this January – with Vitesse reportedly wanting £2m this month – has also been quashed by Danilho Doekhi himself who is also ready planning for February at the Eredivisie side.
Speaking after Vitesse’s 3-1 defeat to Groningen – a result which leaves them 6th in the table – Doekhi pointed to a “beautiful February” which contains league, cup and Europa Conference League matches.
“We now have to get up quickly again, a beautiful February is coming,” said Doekhi, as quoted by the Daily Record.
With Vitesse set to play Ajax in the KNVB Cup quarter-finals in February before a double-header against Rapid Wien in the ECL, it appears something Danilho Doekhi doesn’t want to miss.
Meanwhile, Rangers’ deal with Castore comes into focus amid claims of a £42m contract with a comparable European club and new deals with four clubs in Europe’s top leagues.
