Rangers are set to secure the services of Ross McCrorie from Bristol City for a cut-price fee, much to the delight of Andrew Cavenagh.

The Gers chairman was set to back Danny Rohl with funds this summer, and will be doing the same now that Derek McInnes is at the helm.

While Lawrence Shankland was not his signing, McInnes will undoubtedly be thrilled to reunite with him, and is on the verge of securing his first transfer at Ibrox, with McCrorie all set to join Rangers.

Rangers will be paying only £900,000 for Ross McCrorie

Chris Jack has reported that the Ibrox outfit will be paying £900,000 to Bristol City for the 28-year-old defender.

There could be further add-ons to the deal that could take the deal closer to the £2m mark that was reported initially, but that will not be an upfront payment.

This will undoubtedly be a boost for the Gers as they will be signing someone who can compete for a starting berth and have had to pay only six figures for him.

In contrast, they have overspent on bang average players in recent years, so this will be something that the fans would appreciate.

While other options are being considered, there is a likelihood that McCrorie competes with Dujon Sterling for a regular starting berth.

Rangers News understands that another full-back is expected to be signed, ideally one who is capable of playing at right-back as well as left-back.

Which other right-backs have Rangers been considering?

Hampus Skoglund is someone who’s liked by the Ibrox hierarchy, and that deal was being pushed for when Rohl was in charge.

However, things are different now as there’s a new manager at the helm, so it remains to be seen if McInnes is still keen on him.

Nathan Patterson also has admirers at Rangers, and a reunion has long been talked about, given the fact that he’s struggling for game time at Everton, and he will count as a homegrown player should he return.

That said, McInnes may first sanction a move for a left-back to offer cover and competition to Tuur Rommens, before potentially prioritising another full-back.
