Rangers have always kept an eye on the Premier League loan market when it comes to reinforcing their squad.
The likes of Ryan Kent and Abdallah Sima probably stand out as the biggest success stories but the Ibrox club continue to be linked to a number of names down south.
Heck, only last week was Gary McAllister claiming Rangers tried and failed to bring Curtis Jones to Ibrox.
Heavily Rangers-linked Dominic Solanke has also just completed a £65m move to Spurs.
But according to reputable reports, Rangers could be about to miss out on one Liverpool midfielder as a club of potential Champions League foes launch an eye-watering bid.

Salzburg launch Clark bid
Rangers were linked to Liverpool’s Bobby Clark at the beginning of the transfer window.
Back then it was claimed that Rangers had ‘thrown their hat into the ring’ with regards a potential loan move as Liverpool looked to tie the 19-year-old down on a longer-term contract.
But even back then there was an acknowledgment that RB Salzburg were leading the pack for Bobby Clark given links to the Austrian club’s new manager.
Salzburg – who are heavily backed by energy drinks giant Red Bull – have appointed Dutch coach Pep Lijnders as their new manager ahead of this season.
Lijnders knows Bobby Clark personally having spent six years as an assistant to the outgoing Jurgen Klopp at Anfield.
Now it is being reported in the Athletic that RB Salzburg have stepped up their pursuit of Bobby Clark with an eye-watering £8.2m bid for the midfielder.
The report claims that there has been substantial loan interest in Clark this summer, with the likes of Norwich City and Leeds United name dropped but there no mention of Rangers.
It’s suggested that Liverpool are open to the sale of the midfielder but only if the bid reflects the potential market value of the ex-Newcastle United youth.
Since moving to Liverpool in 2021, the midfielder has made 14 appearances for the Anfield first-team, scoring once in the Europa League.
Rangers Champions League challenge set
Whilst the sorts of fees being banded about automatically quash any notion of Rangers interest, the bid shows what the Gers are up against in Champions League qualification.
The Gers are set to face off against Dynamo Kiev in the second leg of Champions League QR3 with the match neatly poised at 1-1.
With the winners to progress to the Champions League Playoff round, main stage regulars RB Salzburg are one of two sides who could lie in wait.
The Austrians currently lead Dutch side FC Twente 2-1 from the first leg in Salzburg and although Sam Lammers will have other ideas, are favourites to progress to the Playoff.
Should they do so then there is every chance that Rangers will face off against Bobby Clark for a place in the Champions League proper.
RB Salzburg probably serve as inspiration to Rangers as the Ibrox side look to develop a more active and successful player trading transfer model.
As of September last year, the Austrians are one of the most profitable clubs of the 21st century raking in close to £330m in profits through player trading since the year 2000.
