A transfer twist has emerged in the Oliver Antman situation at Rangers, with Chris Jack providing an update on Club Brugge’s interest in the player.

Antman has been one of the more underwhelming signings of the Light Blues’ expensive summer rebuild last year, and Rangers News previously reported that the club are willing to cut their losses on the Finnish winger just twelve months after bringing him to Ibrox.

Club Brugge have been mooted as a potential destination for the 24-year-old following an approach from the Belgian side, a development that would offer a relatively straightforward exit route for all parties.

However, Jack’s latest update suggests the reality is more complicated than the headlines implied.

Chris Jack delivers Club Brugge verdict on Oliver Antman’s Rangers future

Speaking on the Rangers Review YouTube channel, the most plugged-in journalist at Ibrox addressed the Brugge link directly, and his assessment was measured by telling.

Jack placed Antman firmly in the category of players whose futures are uncertain and who are not nailed on to be part of Danny Rohl‘s squad next season.

However, the journalist was clear that Club Brugge represent an unlikely destination for the winger based on current information, suggesting the link, while not without foundation, may have been overstated.

In his view, it is still too early in the summer for there to be a conclusion to Antman’s uncertain situation in Govan.

Speaking on the Rangers Review YouTube channel, he said: “One that’s kind of done the rounds the last couple of days is Oliver Antman being linked with Club Brugge. There has been a bit of a chat about that.

“He probably falls into that [category] when we’re divvying players up into various groups and sections. I think he’s one that I would say whose future is uncertain, perhaps not nailed down to be a part of this squad.

“But as far as we understand, Club Brugge are an unlikely home for him. So we’ll need to wait and see how that develops on Antman’s future over the next few weeks.”

Should Gers keep Antman?

To answer simply, no. The evidence from this season does not justify retaining a player who failed to justify his place in the squad on a consistent basis.

Rangers need players who deliver in the moments that matter, and too often this season, Antman came up short in that regard.

Moving him on frees up wages, a squad place, and sends a clear message that underperformance has consequences under the new Ibrox regime.

While there is a case to be made about the Finland international hitting the ground running next season with Lawrence Shankland leading the line, keeping him is not worth the risk.
