Rangers have finally secured the signing of Oscar Cortes with the Colombian becoming the third arrival of the transfer window.

Gers boss Philippe Clement will now have time to assess the 20-year old as part of his squad and decide whether or not he has a future at Ibrox.

An option to buy puts Rangers in a good position and bringing Oscar Cortes to the club points to another indication that recruitment will be in safe hands under Nils Koppen.

Rangers signing of Oscar Cortes points to exciting future

The hope was, after joining from PSV Eindhoven, that the new Gers director of recruitment would bring players like Johan Bakayoko to Glasgow.

Maybe not the actual player himself but ones of his profile.

Speaking after the Colombia international’s announcement, Koppen explained why Oscar Cortes caught Rangers eye:

“Oscar had been on our radar for a long time and was one of the best performers at the South American under-20 Championship.

“He quickly became an important player for Millonarios in the Copa Libertadores and made the move to Europe.”

“Through good contacts, further analysis and our belief in his talent, we are pleased to seize this moment to sign him.”

Contacts.

Koppen has already shown, in Fabio Silva, Mohamed Diomande, Oscar Cortes and – potentially – Jefte, that the net is being cast significantly wider than it has been in recent years.

Diomande is also the oldest of the four players at the ripe old age of 22.

Players on an upward trajectory, not ones that were promising once and full of potential but have lost their way.

Hungry, energetic, dynamic and with one eye on the promised land across the border.

Alongside experienced campaigners like James Tavernier, Connor Goldson, Jack Butland, John Lundstram and Cyriel Dessers, there is a good blend in the squad.

In a few months’ time, we will find out if there has been enough quality too.
