Rangers fans will have been watching the Man City Champions League dismantling of Bayern Munich closely as the club continues to wait on Malik Tillman.

The Gers have an option-to-buy on the 20-year-old USA international and manager Michael Beale has repeatedly sounded out his desire to activate it come the summer.

Malik Tillman has had a solid first season in Light Blue and whilst there remains some frustration with his Old Firm showings in particular, a return of 12 goals and five assists is none too shabby.

It’s certainly better than £7m man Ryan Kent.

But whilst Rangers fans are generally leaning towards a massive yes when it comes to the potential of signing Malik Tillman from Bayern, there are a few things going on in the background.

Specifically this relates to a change of manager at Bayern, with Thomas Tuchel coming into the club to replace Julian Nagelsmann and hopefully retain the Bundesliga title.

Whilst start to life in Germany has been bright, on the European stage the Bundesliga champions became the latest side to fall foul of a swashbuckling Man City led by Erling Braut Haaland.

The striker scored the final goal in a 3-0 win with around 15 minutes to play, leading on from a first-half Rodri goal and a second from Bernardo Silva with 70 minutes on the clock.

The result has Bayern’s Champions League campaign hanging by a thread and plenty wondering if Tuchel will wield the transfer sword come to the summer.

With reports suggesting the futures of Leroy Sane and Serge Gnabry could be central to Malik Tillman’s Bayern fate, the result could be considered ominous for Rangers supporters.

The fear is that Thomas Tuchel calls everyone back in for pre-season to assess his squad and this could have Rangers hanging on heading into the Champions League qualifiers.

That’s why so many Rangers fans will be hoping to strike that reported £5m deal for Malik Tillman as soon as possible with the latest suggesting Bayern are prepared to sanction the switch.
