Any prospective Rangers deal for Bayern loanee Malik Tillman could depend on the future of Germany pair Leroy Sane and Serge Gnabry at the Allianz Arena.

That’s according to ex-USA international turned pundit Eric Wynalda, who was discussing the future of Malik Tillman on the Wondergoal podcast.

Rangers have an exclusive option-to-buy on the 20-year-old talent, with the fee being reported anywhere between £5m and £6.2m.

Michael Beale is clear that he wants the impressive youngster to be part of his side going forward, whilst Rangers are looking ahead to a big summer of investment and change at the club.

But according to Wynalda, the Ibrox club’s dreams to sign Malik Tillman from Bayern could be dashed by the situations involving Leroy Sane and Serge Gnabry, who are at interesting junctures in their careers in Germany.

Malik Tillman Bayern future could hinge on duo

“Malik Tillman has some big decisions to make,” said Wynalda.

“The main reason why Bayern might be asking for his services would be the drama unfolding with Gnabry and Sane, who are also experiencing their own should I stay or should I go situation.

“The point of the loan was never that Bayern didn’t want him. It was more that they didn’t need him when they decided to loan him out.

“His performances at Rangers have been very good and Bayern have been keeping a close eye on his progress.

“At the time of the original loan Rangers was really the only landing spot that made sense. Because he has truly proven himself now there are multiple teams that would take a very serious look at him on a permanent move. His price tag has certainly gone up.”

Leroy Sane, who was signed on a reported £54.8m deal from Man City in 2020 and is about to enter the final year of his current deal in the summer, whilst Serge Gnabry has been linked with a move to Real Madrid.

Whilst Rangers fans will be hoping Bayern don’t opt to keep Malik Tillman this summer, it is a testament to the player’s potential that he’s being mooted as a potential replacement for both these high-profile superstars.

Meanwhile, Rangers are beginning to see flashes of the best of Todd Cantwell.
