Rangers have learned where they stand with regard to signing Luke Graham from Dundee in the coming weeks.

Graham has been linked with Rangers for the past few months, as the club are keen on signing centre-backs this summer.

With Nasser Djiga and Derek Cornelius returning to their parent clubs following their season-long loans, it makes sense for the Light Blues to bring in replacements.

Rangers are not among the frontrunners to sign Luke Graham

While Graham is pushing to leave Dundee this summer, a move to another Scottish club is not something that tempts him, according to TEAMtalk.

The 22-year-old is increasingly likely to part ways with his club, with numerous teams in England and on the continent vying for his services.

His preference does appear to be south of the border, especially Portsmouth, who did show a willingness to sign him in January as well.

Along with the Fratton Park outfit, there are other sides in England’s second tier who are leading the race for his services and are ahead of the Light Blues in their pursuit.

Dan Purdy has made personal checks on Graham, and this is a transfer target that has been approved by the hierarchy.

However, if he is not willing to move to Glasgow, then Rangers are expected to move on to alternatives in the coming weeks.

A deal for the centre-back, even if he is open to joining, is not likely to be a cheap one, with Dundee looking for a club-record fee to part ways with him, which would be north of £1.5m.

What have Dundee said about Graham’s future?

Dundee boss Steven Pressley has begrudgingly admitted that the club are likely to part ways with Graham in the summer.

While nobody at the club would want him to leave, they know that he wants out, and there is genuine interest in his services.

He claims that holding on to him will be extremely difficult as he keeps improving as a player and seems to have outgrown the challenge at Dundee.

They succeeded in turning down Portsmouth’s offer for him in January, but that may not happen this summer.

Pressley said: “Our biggest problem, it’s obvious, is trying to hold on to him or trying to replace him. That’s going to be the hardest part of the summer. It may be the case that we just have to enjoy him while he’s here.

“I think that it’s the nature of the way football works that we’re not the only selling club. There’s maybe only one or two clubs in the world that aren’t selling clubs. We have to accept that.

“But as the club have shown over the January window that Luke Graham won’t be leaving unless we get the fee that we think is acceptable and reflects his value. And that seems to grow by the game.”
