Joan Jordan in telling Sevilla snub as wonderkid Rangers target steals the show

Joan Jordan is the latest name interesting Rangers as the club look to bolster their midfield options.

The 30-year-old Spanish midfielder boasts plenty of top level experience, having played over 200 games for Sevilla, winning two Europa Leagues and playing Champions League football.

As Rangers look to add more technical quality and experience to their ranks, a proposed Ibrox move for Joan Jordan makes sense on paper.

But with Sevilla reportedly demanding any would-be suitors cover half of the midfielder’s wages, Rangers could wind up paying £35k per week to bring Jordan into the club.

Now, the midfielder was nowhere to be seen as Sevilla kicked off their pre-season campaign against another Ibrox-linked midfield star.

Jordan in Sevilla friendly snub

Like Rangers, Sevilla are going through a summer of substantial upheaval after a disappointing campaign last season.

Former Leeds United sporting director Victor Orta is the man tasked with revamping the club’s squad whilst Francisco Garcia Pimenta has come in as manager.

As a result Joan Jordan has been told that he is not part of Sevilla’s plans this season and has been told to find a new club.

This has been backed up by Jordan’s absence from Sevilla’s first pre-season squad of the season.

The absence of Joan Jordan wasn’t the only thing of note from a Rangers point of view in the match either.

South African midfielder-turned-winger Relebohile Mofokeng has been strongly linked with Rangers this summer and was part of the Orlando Pirates side.

The 19-year-old has been a revelation for the South African team since breaking through last season and impressed in the friendly as the Estadio Jesus Navas.

It was from a Relebohile Mofokeng corner that Orlando Pirates took the lead in the match, the Bafana Bafana talent setting up Miguel Timm for the opener.

Orlando Pirates would eventually run out 2-0 winners in the match with Kabelo Dlamini netting the other goal in the game.

Sevilla replace Rangers target in double swoop

It’s worth noting that Joan Jordan wasn’t the only Sevilla midfielder missing from the game.

Only the other two have been lined up to replace the 6ft Spaniard with Sevilla announcing a double arrival in the middle of the park before the game.

There was no place for new midfield signing Albert Sambi Lokonga, whose season-long loan deal from Arsenal has now been concluded.

This was the same for fellow midfielder Saul Niguez, who has also joined the Spanish side on loan, this time from Atletico Madrid.

The additions are certainly ominous when it comes to the future of Joan Jordan at Sevilla.

With Fabrizio Romano claiming that Rangers have already had an approach rebuffed, Gers fans are waiting to see if the Ibrox club make a return in the coming days.
