Sevilla star Joan Jordan is the latest name being linked to Rangers as the club’s stuttering transfer window stalls.

Philippe Clement has been clear that Rangers will need to sell before they can buy this summer but there are transfer cogs working in the background.

One of them appears to be the middle of the pitch, with Fabrizio Romano claiming that Rangers have had a loan bid rejected for Joan Jordan ahead of the new season.

The 30-year-old 6ft midfielder has been with Sevilla since 2019 and has two years remaining on his contract at the Ramon Sanchez-Pizjuán in Spain.

But whilst Sevilla rebuffed Rangers’ initial approach, as the Spaniards undergo a summer revamp the Gers are reportedly set to up their offer.

Rangers set sights on Jordan

Fernando Serrano is the founder of leading Sevilla-orientated online publication Bombanera Insider.

The Spanish journalist – who has close links to the La Liga side and 13k followers on X – has provided an update on those Rangers links to Joan Jordan.

Claiming that the Ibrox side will make a ‘new attempt’ for Jordan, the report claims that Sevilla want would-be suitors to pay at least 50% of the player’s salary.

Reports online have claimed that Jordan currently earns as much as £70k per week in Spain.

Serrano also believes that Rangers are not the only team interested in signing Jordan this summer, with unnamed clubs in Greece referenced.

Translated, the tweet reads: “Rangers will make a new attempt for Joan Jordan. Sevilla will not accept to pay more than 50% of his salary. From Greece they have also shown interest in Jordan’s loan.”

Rangers are short of experience in the middle of the park as things stand.

Having lost experienced duo Ryan Jack and John Lundstram in the summer, Rangers have been heavily linked with a move for Scotland international Kenny McLean.

It is not clear if the Joan Jordan reports signal the club moving on from the ex-Aberdeen midfielder, but the Sevilla star occupies a similar role on the pitch.

A technical box-to-box midfielder with a solid passing range, the 30-year-old would add grit and quality to the Ibrox club’s currently undercooked midfield.

Catalan international Jordan – who has also played for Espanyol, Valladolid and Éibar in his club career – is a two-time Europa League winner with Sevilla.

Sevilla want transfer business done ‘quickly’

Boasting Champions League experience, Joan Jordan has captained Sevilla on occasion but looks set to fall victim to a scything rebuild in the background of the club.

Ex-Leeds sporting director Victor Orta is tasked with rebuilding the La Liga side, who finished an unacceptable 14th last season.

Francisco Javier Garcia Pimienta has come into the club as manager but – similarly to Philippe Clement at Rangers – is under severe financial constraints as he looks to rebuild the team.

Midfield is one area of the park where Sevilla have been linked to a number of players as Rangers reportedly target Joan Jordan.

As summarised by Orgullo de Nervion – who are linked to major Spanish outlet ABC – Orta is now hoping to close any transfer incomings and outgoings ‘quickly’.

One player who has been strongly linked with a move to Sevilla is Arsenal midfielder Albert Sambi Lokonga.

The Belgian has been pictured in Spain having a medical and is expected to join Los Nervionenses on a loan-to-buy deal.

Another midfielder strongly linked with a move to Sevilla is Saul Niguéz, who is said to be negotiating the termination of his contract with Atlético Madrid ahead of a move.

The Spanish international, 29, is another who plays in a similar position to Joan Jordan.

Sevilla are also said to be in pursuit of Chelsea striker Marc Guiu, who has only just moved to Stamford Bridge from Barcelona, whilst a deal to bring Spanish attacker Peque to the club from Racing Santander has already been completed.

From a Rangers point of view, the claim that a ‘lack of space prevents incorporations’ will pique the interest of supporters.

With Joan Jordan amongst those who could exit, Sevilla are also trying to move on Rafa Mir, who has been linked to Valencia, and Youssef En-Nesyri, who has interest in Italy and the Middle East.

Could this summer’s transfer cogs finally be moving in the direction of Ibrox?
