Rangers fans might have celebrated the exit of Ross Wilson to Nottingham Forest, but the move could have a knock-on effect when it comes to any dealing with Bayern and Malik Tillman.

Feisty Ibrox protests aimed at the former Southampton director culminated in Ross Wilson moving on after a mixed three-and-a-half years at Rangers.

Whilst the club secured 55 and reached the Europa League Final during the sporting directorship of Ross Wilson, the Gers has also fell further behind Celtic and squandered their domestic dominance.

The squad management – with several key players out of contract and others depreciating in value – has also come under the microscope after several failed windows under the director.

Ross Wilson played key role in Malik Tillman deal

Whilst there has been discontent at Rangers with Ross Wilson, no-one can deny the role the director played in taking Bayern loanee Malik Tillman to Ibrox.

The 20-year-old USA international is not quite the finished product but Rangers have seen glimpses of a top talent and all the latest reports suggest Malik Tillman is a summer target.

But it was Ross Wilson who was mentioned as the brains behind the Malik Tillman deal as a former Bayern director gave the inside track on the transfer.

This comes with Rangers having an exclusive option-to-buy on the midfielder and Bayern having a buy back clause for the future.

“Everyone involved in the deal deserves huge compliments,” said Michael Reschke.

“I was surprised by the move as usually top talents like Malik would go to Austria or another German side and it’s not common for a Scottish club to do this sort of deal.

“It’s unusual, so I compliment the scouting system and the sporting director at Rangers for the decision.

“I was very surprised when I read it. I thought, ‘Oh, there is someone intelligent there to do this deal’. It’s a very clever deal.”

It’s not clear how much Ross Wilson’s exit will impact Rangers’ pursuit of Malik Tillman but it is clear he was key in convincing Bayern to let the player move to Ibrox.

Time well tell of course but the latest coming out of Rangers suggests Malik Tillman wants to move to Rangers permanently.

But amid reports the deal will cost £5m to complete, the latest coming out of Germany suggests Rangers might need to bargain with Bayern.
