Reportedly in-demand Rangers star Calvin Bassey has reaffirmed his Ibrox commitment amid much Premier League speculation regarding his future.
The big defender, 22, has been a revelation at the club this season and has been the most improved player in Govan with expert showings at left-back and centre-back on domestic and European soil.
Taking to social media after the curtain finally came down on a gargantuan season following a run of games with Nigeria, Calvin Bassey hinted that he’s no intention of going anywhere at least.
Once said to be imminently joining Aston Villa, with other interest around the Premier League and Bundesliga, Calvin Bassey simply thanked the fans for their support and intimated that he’d been seeing them next season.
Calvin Bassey hints he’s no suggestion of leaving Rangers this summer
Reportedly valued around the £25m mark, Rangers have a major asset on their hands and if a move to the Premier League doesn’t beckon, then a new contract certainly should.
Calvin Bassey’s current deal runs until the summer of 2024 and Rangers must strengthen their position with the English trained, robust, talented defender who has bags of potential.
Calvin Bassey isn’t the only one dropping hints regarding his future either.
Nigeria teammate Joe Aribo – whose incredible 70 game season included the most games played by any player on planet football this campaign – also had a message to supporters on Twitter.
Entering the final year of his deal at Ibrox, Aribo is amongst the favourites to leave and amid links to Crystal Palace there are fears interest in the 25-year-old could be realised.
But similarly to Bassey, Joe Aribo is clearly just focused on the task at hand as he took to social media to thank fans and look ahead to the next campaign.
Of course, it’s a long window and anything can happen, but it’s good to see both these players focused and grateful for the success they’re having at Rangers.
Could one or either of them be around next season to build on it?
Meanwhile, a pre-season Rangers friendly on Euro soil is set to be screened live on Premier Sport.
