Rangers have stalled in the transfer market in recent weeks with no new arrivals since Robin Propper.

Philippe Clement will want more reinforcements in the days before the window closes.

Domagoj Bradaric has been named as a potential target, however, the manager has already explained why left-back isn’t a priority position for his squad.

Fabio Silva in extravagant post Rangers valuation

Depth in attack is though but one player who won’t be returning to Rangers is Fabio Silva.

Reported to be attracting interest from across Europe, Wolves have slapped a £17m price tag on the Portugal Under-21 international’s head according to The Daily Express.

A little out of Rangers price range.

Only a few weeks after arriving at Ibrox on loan, Silva’s dad and agent claimed that an extension to the six-month stay could be possible:

“We have a long contract with Wolves but Fabio has to settle down somewhere. Is there a possibility of Fabio staying at Rangers next season if he does well, even on loan? I think so, yes. Listen, in four months many things can happen.

“But I hope Rangers can be champions this season which would be amazing for the club and also for Fabio.

“To play in the Champions League, that’s something Fabio has desired so much. He needs continuity in his career now. If Rangers are happy with him – and obviously the last word will be with Wolves – why not?”

Silva fee could make a lot of difference for Rangers

Fabio Silva had a hard time of it at Rangers and never truly endeared himself to the fans.

Ironically, his best performances were in the biggest game against Benfica and Celtic where he gave Alan Johnston a torrid time playing off the left-hand side of the attack.

It was a position where he did a job but wasn’t a natural fit and he always looked more comfortable playing in the middle than on the wing.

Four goals in 18 league appearances isn’t a great return regardless of whether or not he was in his preferred position though.

As seen against St Johnstone at the weekend with Rabbi Matondo and Vaclav Cerny, wingers get plenty of chances to score in a possession dominant Rangers team.

Without his initial £50m fee, Wolves would be struggling to get a tenth of that given his form last season.

At 22-years old, Silva still has potential and the sort of profile that clubs on the continent will find attractive.

Imagine what £17m could do for Rangers fortunes and how good Philippe Clement’s squad would look like with that sort of money.

It certainly wouldn’t have Fabio Silva in it.
