Josh Mulligan is on Rangers’ radar as the Ibrox club look to strengthen their squad with Scottish Premiership talent heading into the new season.

Nils Koppen has promised to shop more locally as the Ibrox side look at add a Scottish spine to their squad which has been sorely missing in recent seasons.

Rangers ended a long-running dispute with Aberdeen over Connor Barron when a tribunal ruled they’d have to pay over £600k after signing the midfielder last summer.

Back on transfer deadline day, Rangers also confirmed the signing of Lyall Cameron who will join up with the Gers this summer.

Rangers have since been linked to Josh Mulligan, another of Tony Docherty’s Dens Park performers, but the latest suggests the Dee will not let the 22-year-old go without a fight.

Dundee won’t let Josh Mulligan leave without a fight

Dundee manager Tony Docherty deserves huge credit for his role in developing top young talent at Dens Park.

Dundee banked £1m from the sale of Luke McCowan to Celtic in the summer, whilst Rangers want to avoid another Barron fiasco in the pursuit of Lyall Cameron.

When it comes to Josh Mulligan, Tony Docherty is well aware of swirling interest but in comments made to the Courier, the manager insists he hopes the club’s number eight will stick around for next season.

“We won’t give up hope of Josh staying because you always want to keep your best players,” said Docherty.

“We started the season with McCowan, Cameron and Mulligan and all three have improved so much they’re attracting attention.

“It’s important that’s what we do at this club, improve and develop players.

“It’s great to see players do well and for as long as Josh is with us we’ll continue to work with him.

“Hopefully we’re working with him for longer.”

Rangers target has stepped up to replace Celtic star

Tony Docherty claims that Josh Mulligan has stepped up to the plate after Dundee lost Luke McCowan to Celtic.

The Scottish Premiership gaffer also claims that the midfielder has been getting better and better as the season has gone on, adding that Mulligan hasn’t allowed it to affect his performances.

“This season was going to be a challenge for Josh because we lost Luke McCowan to Celtic and I told him afterwards I needed him to step up,” the Dundee boss said.

“I wanted to see him as our most prominent midfielder alongside Lyall Cameron and gave him the No 8 jersey.

“For me, he’s getting better and better as the season goes on.

“Of course there’s going to be speculation about him when he’s putting in performances like he is at the moment.

“That’s the nature of football, people will always take notice and there will always be chatter about you when you’re in the form he’s in.

“But he’s handled it well, he’s not let any of it affect him.

“He’s continued with what he does every day, played well in games and is making a real contribution to the team.“
