Rangers linked to ‘athletic monster’ Josh Mulligan after being told to sign him

Rangers are at the start of a new era with an exciting summer ahead for those of a Light Blue persuasion.

The San Fransisco 49ers takeover has been secured with Patrick Stewart appointing Kevin Thelwell as sporting director too.

The influence of the 49ers is clear already given Gretar Steinsson’s connection to Thelwell from his time at Everton.

With proven Premier League operators in senior positions, there is a greater chance of achieving success but the Rangers squad rebuild remains the primary objective for fans.

Nils Koppen has said Rangers will sign more Scots and it looks like he is true to his word with the latest transfer report.

Rangers have been told to sign Josh Mulligan already

Lyall Cameron has been signed already but he could be joined by Dens Park teammate and “athletic monster” Josh Mulligan.

The versatile right-footer has been deployed at right-back, on the right-hand side of midfield and as a central midfielder this season for Dundee.

After Rangers’ recent dramatic win over Dundee, Koppen was urged to add Mulligan to the growing Scottish contingent at Ibrox.

“The boy Adewumi (for Dundee) is really good,” said Andy Halliday on the Open Goal podcast. “He is really good, but Mulligan. Has he signed a contract at Dundee?”

Si Ferry responded: “I don’t think so.” Before Paul Slane added: “Celtic and Rangers should be going for him.”

Ferry then stated: “He puts a lot of it down to his time at Peterhead. He was speaking about it,” as Halliday added: “He was excellent.”

Who in the Rangers squad is Mulligan most like?

Rangers News have already urged Koppen to make the same decision.

The 22-year old maybe isn’t a headline maker, but there is no doubt about his ability or physicality.

At right-back, Rangers need a player capable of doing a defensive shift as well as contributing in the final third, and Mulligan ticks these boxes.

His game time in the middle of the park show just how comfortable on the ball he is too.

In terms of style of play, Mulligan is very similar to Dujon Sterling.

No fuss, no frills, just a very effective and efficient footballer, capable of carrying out the instructions of the manager at either end of the park.

Walter Smith would have loved him.
