£6m Glen Kamara Rangers reminder six years on as Ibrox lightning threatens to strike twice

It’s been six years since Rangers famously paid £50k to bring Glen Kamara to Ibrox from Dundee.

The Gers struck a pre-contract deal for the Finnish international midfielder who’d impressed north of the border after coming through at Arsenal.

Rangers then struck a last minute deal for Glen Kamara in the January transfer window and the rest, as they say, is history.

But six years on from the moment Rangers signed one of the club’s most high-profile players of recent seasons, could lightning be about to strike twice?

Rangers in talks with Lyall Cameron

Rangers remain interested in a deal to bring Lyall Cameron to Ibrox at the end of his contract with Dundee.

The Gers are locked in discussions with Cameron’s representatives as the midfielder, by Dundee manager Tony Docherty’s own admission, considers his options at Dens Park.

Cameron has previously outlined a desire to play for Rangers and with the particulars of a deal being thrashed out, Ibrox seems like the likeliest destination for the 22-year-old.

But with the likes of Aberdeen linked to Cameron, and Dundee keen to keep the midfielder around, nothing is signed until it’s signed.

With just days left of the January transfer window, all eyes are on Rangers and whether or not the club can strike a pre-contract deal with Lyall Cameron before it closes.

Rangers beat deadline to sing Glen Kamara

If Rangers can strike a deal for Lyall Cameron before Monday’s 11pm transfer deadline then the Gers may well be inclined to bring the transfer forward.

CEO Patrick Stewart has previously intimated the club could ‘accelerate’ a transfer this January whilst Cameron ticks all of Nils Koppen’s homegrown boxes.

Glen Kamara’s transfer is a timely reminder of the work that can be done late in January, with Rangers beating the deadline to sign the midfielder on the 31st of January.

Kamara went on to make 193 appearances for Rangers and bank the club over £6m between a £5.5m transfer to Leeds United and a £500k slice of the midfielder’s eventual sale to Rennes in France.

With Kamara now closing in on a move to Saudi Arabia, Rangers are once again looking towards Dens Park for a midfielder who has outgrown Dundee.

With Rangers fans looking towards the transfer deadline, the Finnish international serves as a reminder of what can happen before the window slams shut.
