‘No-brainer’ Rangers signing shines as transfer promise tested by £1m kid with Ibrox ‘wish’

Dundee attacker Lyall Cameron certainly fits the bill in terms of Nils Koppen’s new and improved Rangers transfer strategy.

The Ibrox director of recruitment has pledged to keep a closer eye on the Scottish market after several top talents have slipped through Rangers’ fingers in recent seasons.

Whilst the likes of Lewis Ferguson and Josh Doig have been well-documented, Koppen claims Rangers will be targeting the recruitment of one Scottish player per season.

And if the weekend’s performance of Dundee star Lyall Cameron is anything to go by, Rangers could certainly do worse than cast a glance in the kid’s direction.

Lyall Cameron justifies ex-Rangers star tip

Whilst the likes of Motherwell midfielder Lennon Miller and Kilmarnock star David Watson grab the headlines, Dundee’s Lyall Cameron is also making a big impression.

The attacking midfielder, 22, has already been turning heads this season and impressed once again as Dundee won away against form Motherwell in the Scottish Premiership.

Netting the only goal of the game, Cameron was quickest to react in the box to fire the ball low into the far corner and secure his side all three points at Fir Park.

It was a very impressive display from Lyall Cameron, who had four shots in the match and created three chances in the game.

Also boasting a pass accuracy of 90% in the match, the composed midfielder won three out of four ground duels and was undoubtedly the Player of the Match.

The performance comes just days after ex-Rangers midfielder Andy Halliday urged his old side to bring Lyall Cameron to Ibrox for ‘less than £1m’.

Halliday referenced Celtic raiding Dundee in the summer transfer window to sign Luke McCowan after the attacker netted ten goals in the Scottish Premiership last season.

“See [Luke] McCowan signing for Rangers or Celtic from Dundee, for that’s a no-brainer signing,” Halliday told Open Goal.

“Dundee fans won’t like this, but Lyall Cameron is the next one. Go and sign him, how much is he going to cost? Less than a million quid.

“I’m not talking about snobbery from Hibs. I’m talking about Rangers and Celtic.”

Lyall Cameron has Rangers ‘wish’

Lyall Cameron himself has also spoken about potentially playing for Rangers after a recent visit to Ibrox with Dundee.

Back in late September, Cameron and Dundee were defeated 3-0 by Rangers in the Premier Sports Cup but if the attacking midfielder gets his ‘wish’ it won’t be the final time we see him at Ibrox.

The Dundee star, who has since turned 22, claims that he has his eye set on a move to Rangers or a ‘team like them’ in the future.

It comes with Daily Record journalist Scott Burns rubbishing reports of Rangers interest in Lyall Cameron towards the end of the summer transfer window.

“I know I’m only 21 but I’m one of the more experienced guys in the team,” Cameron said.

“I think once everyone finds their feet and we start understanding each other I think we’ll be OK.

“I’m really confident in my own abilities and I think I could play in a bigger team.

“Obviously when you come to places like Ibrox, you just wish you could get a move to a team like this.

“Obviously it would be huge for your career. So hopefully one day I can go on to do that.”
