And so another transfer window passes with Rangers fans feeling underwhelmed.
With just one signing made in January, there is a feeling that the Gers squad is lacking in depth and may be stretched between now and the end of the season, although there is the silver lining that young players will be given a chance.
Rafael Fernandes comes in to give another option at centre-back, but with James Tavernier filling in there in recent times and Ridvan Yilmaz at right-back, some more numbers in there might have been ideal.
It has since emerged Rangers launched a deadline day attempt to sign a winger on loan but weren’t able to get it done.
Philippe Clement admitted Gers signings were necessary but didn’t get his wish, which will have been a disappointment to the manager.
And Andy Halliday has been left stunned by the lack of January transfer activity from Rangers.

Andy Halliday ‘amazed’ by Rangers’ transfer window
Former Rangers midfielder Halliday can’t quite believe the club have only added one player to their ranks.
He feared they were lacking in strength in depth already, so to see several players move out last month and just the one drafted in has baffled him.
And he would have targeted the centre back and wide areas for more signings.
Speaking on Open Goal before the deadline had passed, Halliday said: “I’d be amazed if Rangers don’t sign a couple of players today. I think everybody could say they’ve not got a lot of depth.
“If you told me they’re then going to lose three or four in that window and only sign one boy on loan.
“Every window you won’t to come out of it strong than you went in. They’re going to leave the window weaker if they don’t make any more signings.”
Asked were they should have been looking, he said: “I still think they need another centre half personally, and I would like to see them add more depth on the wings.
“You’re a Hagi or a Cerny injury away from relying on Ross McCausland or somebody every week.
“Igamane played left wing when he’s been an absolutely stand-out up front. Put out to left wing because they don’t have depth.”
What Halliday has said on Bailey Rice
Speaking on Philippe Clement’s assessment of Bailey Rice previously being ‘non-existent’ out of possession, Halliday added: “But to be honest, what Clement said about him in the media I completely agree with. I’ve watched him loads and he was always really good in possession but out of possession there was no way he could play first-team with the way he was.
“But they’ve obviously worked on it with him and that’s why he’s getting opportunities, so brilliant. That’s coaching, that’s what you need to do with the younger boys.”
