Three centre backs who should be interesting Rangers and Steven Gerrard

Rangers boss Steven Gerrard has said he would be quite happy if the Ibrox club’s transfer window ended with the signing of a centre back [Evening Times].
Connor Goldson and Nikola Katic look set to be the club’s first choice centre halves next season, with new signing George Edmundson propping up the two.
But as Rangers reportedly write off a move for Martin Skrtel [Scottish Sun], here are three players that could fill that troublesome fourth slot.

Paddy McNair

Northern Irish international McNair has been linked with a move to rivals Celtic [TEAMtalk], but he has never made any secret of his affiliation to Rangers.
Could Rangers steal in and disrupt any Celtic move for the player? Well, the Daily Record claim it could take as much as £5m to prise the former Manchester United youth away from Middlesbrough.

John Souttar

Rangers links to John Souttar were that infuriating to Hearts manager Craig Levein that he stormed out of a press conference when asked about it last season.
The Scotland international is one of Hearts key men and a firm favourite amongst Rangers fans to fill the 4th defensive berth. Hearts reportedly want £3m for the player’s services [Daily Record].

Gary Cahill

A bit of an outlandish suggestion given the immense wages Cahill could demand, but perhaps the Gerrard factor could come into play again here.
An absolute defensive marshall for club and country, England defender Cahill is a free-agent after leaving Chelsea.
It would be incredibly impressive if Gerrard could get his 33-year-old former England teammate to Ibrox.

If anyone could pull this off, it’s Steven Gerrard. (Photo by AMA/Corbis via Getty Images)
