As Rangers reportedly step up their interest in Feyenoord striker Danilo, the situation surrounding Argentine-born Mexican forward Santiago Gimenez is lingering over any deal.
According to Goal, La Liga giants Atletico Madrid and Portuguese counterparts Benfica are the latest sides to express an interest in the $28m (£22m) rated striker.

The outlet has also been carrying quotes from Santiago Gimenez, who was in born in Buenos Aires but represents the Mexican national team, appearing to suggest a move away from Feyenoord is very much possible.
Reports elsewhere, namely in Dutch publication 1908, are claiming that a return to Feyenoord training is imminent for striker who has spent the summer winning the Gold Cup with his country.
Santiago Gimenez did his burgeoning reputation no harm – and showed why the likes of Man United have been extensively linked – by scoring the only goal in a 1-0 win over Panama in the final.
Santiago Gimenez exit links come amid Rangers Danilo interest
Why Rangers will have one eye on the deal concerns the club’s very much live interest in Gimenez’s Brazilian teammate Danilo, who also played a key role in the club’s Eredivisie title victory last season.
Arne Slot’s squad is now very much under risk of being dismantled before their Dutch title defence as Feyenoord also gear up for a shot at the Champions League.
A frustrated Slot suggested as much as he urged the powerbrokers at De Kuip to reinvest some of the money raised through potential transfers back into the side.

The potential arrival of Japanese striker Ayase Ueda will soften the transfer exit talk in Rotterdam but Rangers fans will be watching the Santiago Gimenez with keen interest.
Whilst it’s not clear if the Mexican’s exit would derail Rangers’ bid for Danilo completely, so long as Feyenoord continue to linger in the market it would quite clearly threaten to throw a spanner in the works.
