Rangers tipped to give second chance to striker Steven Gerrard thought he’d signed

Rangers forward line still has a hole or two in it despite Philippe Clement adding a couple of new players.

Oscar Cortés put pen to paper on a loan to buy deal and Hamza Igamane has also joined as he looks to fulfil his obvious potential.

The right-wing remains a cause for concern but it looks like Rangers are finally addressing the shortage of strikers that have been an issue over the past few seasons.

Rangers linked with former target Tyrese Campbell

Linked when Steven Gerrard was manager, Tyrese Campbell was a player with a lot of potential but limited senior action.

Speaking last year Campbell – son of the late Everton legend Kevin – revealed exactly how close he came to signing for Rangers and heading to Ibrox:

“Yeah, there were a couple of points where a move was going to happen,” said Tyrese Campbell.

“This was only really when I wasn’t really playing at Stoke, before I signed my new deal. I was 19, turning 20 – I needed to play football.

“It was just one of those things where – nothing against the club or manager or players, anything like that – just me needing to play.

“It was literally just that but the manager at Stoke, Michael O’Neill sat me down at the time and said ‘what’s going on?’.

“I said I’ve got nothing against the club I just need to play. He said, ‘if I pick you, are you going to play?’ and I said yeah, of course. I’m not going to not play. I don’t want to leave. I’m happy here. Played those games over Christmas and then went from there.”

Campbell move could be a clever one by Rangers

Rangers, according to The Daily Mail, are said to be considering a move for Tyrese Campbell again having been named dropped in January as keeping tabs on the striker’s situation.

With a goal contribution every three games for Stoke City, the 24-year old isn’t quite prolific but he could be a useful backup option.

At 6ft tall and capable of playing on either wing, it’s easy to see why Clement might be looking into offering him a contract.

Successful Rangers teams of the past always had a core of strikers, they didn’t just rely on one or two.

Danilo will be expected to put last season’s injury troubles behind him and lead the line, with Cyriel Dessers a more than competent backup – if he stays.

Igamane is the exciting option, a player who is highly thought of and could make the sort of impact that Alfredo Morelos made after arriving as an unknown quantity.

Campbell is a versatile forward, the type who is handy to have in the squad.

With money tight, Rangers could land a bargain.
