Rangers are set to launch a £7m bid for Utrecht’s Greek international striker Tasos Douvikas, according to reports coming out of the forward’s home country.
Nova Sports are claiming that Rangers are on the verge of making their summer interest legitimate with an €8m (£7m) offer for the 23-year-old attacker.
A translated excerpt from the Greek report reads:
“In particular, Rangers is determined to submit an official proposal to Utrecht for the Greek centre-forward, with the amount to be deposited amounting to eight million euros!”
Rangers have been linked with a move for Tasos Douvikas all summer long with the reports coming at a time when the Ibrox side had appeared to move their attentions elsewhere.
Tasos Douvikas to Rangers links resurface
Rangers have already moved to sign a permanent deal for Atalanta striker Sam Lammers, with the club having reportedly paid up to £3.5m to complete the transfer.
The Gers are also said to be interested in Cremonese striker Cyriel Dessers, who has been extensively linked with a move to Ibrox this summer following his club’s relegation from Serie A.
The latest reports suggest Rangers will have to pay £5m to complete any deal meaning the Gers already look set to splash up to £8.5m on the club’s frontline.
To add in another potential £7m deal for Tasos Douvikas would be a major statement of intent from within Ibrox as Rangers look to finally wrestle back some consistent silverware.
The Gers have stuttered in the final third in recent seasons and it is clear the club need greater numbers and greater results from those at the top end of the park.
Tasos Douvikas isn’t the only other striker being linked with Rangers either, reports heading into the weekend claiming that links to Bordeaux attacker Josh Maja are also legitimate.
It’s all pointing to a busy transfer window at Ibrox and as the week kicks off we expect this Tasos Douvikas to Rangers report to either gather pace or be shut down quickly.
The 23-year-old striker netted 19 times for Utrecht in the Eredivisie this season, sharing the division’s top scorer award with another familiar name who is currently at PSV.
