Rangers manager Steven Gerrard confirms no guard of honour for Celtic

In the build-up to this week’s Old Firm, much of the talk has been about a guard of honour. Although not very much of it has come from the mouths of those associated with Rangers.
Celtic’s cheerleaders have been out in force trolling Rangers with the notion we’ll applaud their side onto the pitch [originally Sky Sports]. Even some old Ibrox heads have thrown in their two cents, much to the dismay of Rangers fans.
But in the game’s pre-match press conference, Steven Gerrard was incredibly tight-lipped about his opinion on the entire thing. He even suggested the decision was taken out of his hands. But he did confirm it won’t happen.

“To be honest with you my thoughts on it are not important on that subject,” said Gerrard.
“The club have made a decision on that and decided there won’t be a guard of honour, so my thoughts are irrelevant.
“I will follow what I’m told to do by the people in charge of the club.”
That just confirms that Rangers will not give Celtic a guard. As if the club were ever going to.

By the same token, as if Celtic would ever do it for Rangers. The entire thing is about superiority and bragging rights, nothing more.
Rangers and their supporters would probably never live it down. Many of the club’s fans certainly don’t endorse the move.

And if the club owes Celtic anything this weekend, it’s certainly not a guard of honour.
