Former Hibs manager, Celtic player and old Ibrox rival Alan Stubbs has hypocritically called on Rangers to “rise above and show a little bit of class” in the guard of honour debate.
The former Easter Road boss showed absolutely none himself when his Hibs side had the chance to do it for Championship winners Rangers in 2016.
The tiresome debate rages on but this is exactly the kind of hypocrisy driving it. It’s particularly cheap stuff from the former Hoops defender.
“It’s about both clubs, really,” Alan Stubbs told Sky Sports.
“If it was on the other foot Rangers would want Celtic to do it. I think you have to rise above it and show a little bit of class.
“There’s a lot of talk it the minute in the game about sectarianism, all this from the crowds.
“We have to bypass all that, rise above it and show a bit of class. Unfortunately I don’t think it’s going to happen.”
The reality is, that any discussion or debate over a guard of honour was never really a discussion or debate at all. Rangers have no intention of doing it, and likely never have done.

Many of the club’s fans have been outspoken about their opposition to the move. The truth is, Rangers should be looking to give Celtic something else this weekend.
And if the shoe was on the other foot, you expect Stubbs’ soundbites would sound a little different.
The former Hibs boss’ most recent job was at St. Mirren where he took charge at the beginning of the season. He only lasted a paltry nine games before being sacked.
