Rangers owe Celtic something other than a guard of honour this week

The mere fact we’re talking about a guard of honour for Celtic at Ibrox is enough to make even the strongest stomached Gers fan wince.
And if the shoe was on the other foot, you can bet it’d be the exact same.
You can also bet that those voices within the media who’re trolling Rangers over the whole thing and stirring fans up would be outright rejecting the idea Celtic should do it for us.

And that’s just it. This is all about one-upmanship. It’s all about the “this is our city”, “know your place ” and “we run Scottish football” message our rivals are desperate to get across. That’s all this is.
It’s not about respect at all – in fact in the fantastical event that Rangers do give Celtic a guard of honour, they’d lose it, not gain it. And probably most importantly from their own fans. The club know all this already, it won’t happen.
It’s just pot stirring nonsense and Rangers owe no-one, least of all Celtic, anything. This is a club and support who have treated Rangers and their fans with nothing but contempt in recent years.

A club who’ve done everything in their power to subjugate Rangers. A club who’ve desperately tried to paint a negative image of Rangers, and a club whose own players have disgraced and desecrated the Rangers badge.

Would Celtic do this for Rangers?

It is absolutely ridiculous that Rangers would give Celtic a guard of honour on our own patch. We’d be ridiculed for years for doing so. Because should roles reverse in the coming seasons, they’d outright reject any such proposal.
And feel pretty vindicated for doing so.

It’s also incredible to think that Rangers would begin to take lectures on respect from a club, a set of supporters and from pundits/cheerleaders who have given absolutely none to us.
They are not our friends, quite the opposite. Let’s drop the charade about a guard of honour.
The only thing Rangers should be looking to give Celtic this week is an absolute hiding on the pitch. If we owe them anything for their behaviour over the last few years, it’s this and this alone.
