When Rangers beat Celtic before the turn of the year, you’d have thought it might’ve been a wake up call to our rivals. Going into the transfer window, we knew both sides had to seize their opportunities.
But so far, only one side of Glasgow seems to be going for the throat. And much like derby day on the 29th of December, it’s the blue side.
As Celtic toil, Rangers are ruthless. If they manage to get the deals over the line, in Steven Davis and Jermain Defoe, Rangers are signing players of high quality. They’re certainly an upgrade on these two loanees.
Forget the fact they’re in their mid-30s.

These are two top professionals who the fans are quite right to be excited about. Both players represent serious moves in this transfer window.
This transfer window could decide destination of the title
The thing is, these are tried and tested players. Players who Gerrard can trust and players who you really wouldn’t bet against having a positive influence on the side.
Celtic on the other hand had a less than £2m bid for Ivory Coast forward Vakoum Issouf Bayo rejected today. His club Dunajska Streda are holding out for more.
At 21, he looks like an exciting option for them. But how long would it take for him to settle? Celtic also have a long line of striking duds who’ve struggled to cope with the league. Amido Balde anyone?

This kind of signing for Celtic smacks at the long-term. A development player who they’ll look to sell on and make money for the club. Will he be able to hit the ground running in February? The same can be said about their links with PSG youngster Timothy Weah.
Rangers on the other hand, are making statements of intent.
We’re going for the league title here, make no mistake. And we’re signing players who can contribute right now.
We’re looking to seize the day.
And whilst I still expect Celtic to make some major moves before February, whoever has the better transfer window might just seize the title as well.
