The first few days of an already hectic transfer window have been dominated by Rangers. More than that, they’ve been dominated by the potential signings of Davis and Defoe.
It’s crazy to think that only a few a months ago we had the inexperienced Ovie Ejaria and Umar Sadiq in their places.
The Steven Davis story has been raging for months. It was originally reported by the Belfast Telegraph. The Defoe story seems to have blown up in a flash. Yesterday, Bournemouth were saying he was available for transfer.
The experienced Premier League duo might be in their mid-30s, but they’re raring to go. Not only that, but Davis and Defoe continue to be top professionals and superb influences at Southampton and Bournemouth respectively.
As such, both clubs appear to be offering them a route out. And if the reports are correct, both players are determined for that be Ibrox. That’s despite paper talk of huge wages we simply can’t match.
The duo also have years of Premier League experience between them and in a young Rangers squad, they will be invaluable additions.
With Ejaria and Sadiq, the opposite was true. Whilst the opportunity was there, they struggled to seize it. Steven Gerrard has clearly learned from this, and wants experience in his squad.
Not only do Davis and Defoe bring that, but they are top, top signings for Rangers.
And they’re also major upgrades on the two players who’ve just left in creative midfielder Ejaria and striker Sadiq.
