It emerged last evening that after months of speculation, Steven Davis’ return to Ibrox is imminent.
A report in the Scottish Sun told that the Northern Irishman had agreed an 18-month contract in principle, with a medical just around the corner.

However, perhaps the most significant detail of the reported contract, is Davis’ salary.
As club captain at Southampton, he was earning approximately £60,000 per week.
At Rangers, he is set to make £12,000 a week.

Obviously, £12k is a still a colossal amount of money, no one can dispute that.
Yet, it is a massive fall from what he had been bringing in on the English south coast. One fifth of his current earnings, to be exact.
It’s almost certain that the 107 cap international, could have commanded higher wages elsewhere.

In fact, he could have just stayed put in Southampton, as his current deal doesn’t expire until June.

Davis clearly wants to play football, though. Not only that, but, he wants to return to his former home, and he is prepared to drastically reduce his income in order to do so.
The now 34-year-old may have left amidst the 2012 troubles, but this aspect shows a commitment to Rangers that the fans are likely to appreciate.
Big things are happening at Ibrox under Gerrard, and Steven Davis wants in.
