Rangers are in talks with Red Bull Salzburg over Danny Rohl’s departure, and a prominent insider has revealed a three-man shortlist to replace him already.
The development marks a significant turning point in what is becoming a managerial saga in its own right, as Andrew Cavenagh’s assurances about Rohl are now being tested by the emergence of concrete interest from Salzburg.
Crucially, Jurgen Klopp, in his role within the Red Bull group, has personally vouched for Rohl as the right man for Salzburg, adding significant weight to an approach that Rangers could have simply rejected, especially since he does not have a release clause at Ibrox.
The fact that they have not rejected but are instead in active talks speaks volumes about the true state of the German tactician’s future in Glasgow – something Keith Jackson has been sceptical about all summer, despite the club’s public stance.

Three-man shortlist revealed as Rohl talks continue
Stevie Clifford of the Four Lads Had a Dream podcast, who is one of the more well-connected voices in Rangers fan media, has revealed that discussions around Rohl’s future are live and that a replacement shortlist is already taking shape.
According to Clifford, Steven Gerrard, Derek McInnes and Kevin Muscat are the three names leading the conversations about who would take over should Rohl depart – a list that will be instantly familiar to Gers supporters, given all three were linked with the Ibrox hot seat before the current head coach’s appointment last year.
The Rangers insider was candid about his own feelings, expressing zero excitement for another managerial search while simultaneously acknowledging the urgency of the situation.

What this means for Rangers
With pre-season just ten days away, a prolonged saga is the last thing the Govan club can afford.
Gerrard is currently without a club but has been linked with Championship opportunities, while McInnes is in charge at Hearts.
Muscat is the wildcard of the three, but all have history with the Light Blues.
For supporters who spent last summer watching a managerial merry-go-round that ended in Russell Martin’s disastrous appointment, the prospect of going through it all again is a deeply uncomfortable one.
