Rangers in talks to sign £4.5m star and he is their no 1 transfer target

Rangers have been in talks with Aris ‘for some time’ with the extent of the competition facing Mick Beale’s side encouraging the Glasgow giants to step up their pursuit of the £4.5 million-rated winger.

If Celtic’s remarkable rebuild under Ange Postecoglou can teach us anything, its that the argument that you need players who ‘know the league’ does not stand up to scrutiny. Celtic, after all, brought in players from Japan, Israel and other far flung markets.

If Rangers are to close the gap at the top of the Premiership table, they could do with embarking upon a similarly extensive – and creative – overhaul. Especially with so many key and long-serving players expected to depart during the summer.

Rangers will have to pay big to sign Luis Palma

One of those is Ryan Kent. The left-winger who’s contract expires in July.

Palma, another right-footed, left sider, would be a readymade replacement. An upgrade perhaps, given that he’s scored 13 goals and set up eight more in 2023/24; one pundit describing the Honduras international as the best striker of a ball anywhere in Greek football.

Palma, Sport24 add, is not merely a target but Rangers’ ‘number one’ target. The Glasgow giants have made numerous trips to watch the 23-year-old in action, the report explaining that talks with Aris have been underway ‘for some time now’.

Rangers opted to step up their pursuit due to the extent of the competition – Palma’s agent admitting that at least 10 clubs have expressed their interest – with Aris demanding around £4.5 million.

Such a fee may be beyond Mick Beale and co. Aris are in no rush to cash in either, preferring to wait in the hope that a bidding war can raise Palma’s price further. Aris will also demand that a significant sell-on clause is included in the forward’s contract.

“Luis has done that all season,” coach Apostalos Terzis said after Palma’s latest Man of the Match display, via the Daily Record.

“He has been a huge player for us. We know there has been a lot of interest in him and it’s not surprising. Hopefully, playing in Europe next season will persuade him to stay with us.”
