Manager praying that Rangers do not sign his £4.5m talisman this summer

Aris coach Apostalos Terzis hopes to keep ‘huge player’ Luis Palma at the Greek outfit this summer as Rangers attempt to bring the Honduras international to Ibrox.

Presuming Ryan Kent is on his way – and that seems increasingly likely, Fenerbahce joining Burnley in pursuit of the former Liverpool youngster – then a replacement will need to be sourced.

Rangers may have found one too.

The Glasgow giants have sent scouts to watch Palma on a number of occasions this term. Greek publication SDNA, meanwhile, believe that Rangers are now ‘very likely’ to step up their pursuit of a player who will set Mick Beale back around £4.5 million, though competition will be fierce and extensive with clubs in Belgium, Germany, France, America and Brazil also keen.

Will Rangers bring Luis Palma to Ibrox?

The 23-year-old was in outstanding form again in midweek. Palma scored twice and set up the other during Wednesday’s 4-2 victory over Volos NPS.

And Terzis hopes that the prospect of European football at the Kleanthis Vikelidis Stadium will be enough to remind Palma that the grass is not always greener elsewhere.

“Luis has done that all season,” Terzis said after Palma’s latest Man of the Match display, via the Daily Record.

“He has been a huge player for us. We know there has been a lot of interest in him and it’s not surprising. Hopefully, playing in Europe next season will persuade him to stay with us.”

Rangers reportedly looked at Panathinaikos captain Dimitrios Kourbelis during a recent scouting mission too. Kourbelis now looks set to stay and sign a new deal at Panathinaikos instead.

In addition to a new winger, Rangers are also planning to bring in a left-sided centre-half, a commanding central midfielder, a number nine and a goalkeeper to replace 41-year-old Allan McGregor.
