Rangers are in discussions with Barry Ferguson over an extraordinary return to Ibrox for the treble-winning captain.
Rangers have officially sacked Philippe Clement and will now look for a temporary solution until the end of the season.
The Gers are in the midst of a substantial overhaul, with the club hunting for a new sporting director and CEO Patrick Stewart overseeing a far-reaching internal review.
With Rangers also in negotiations over a US-led takeover, there are several moving cogs and a short-term fix in the manager’s position certainly looks an attractive one from a Rangers point of view.
But it’s fair to say that when it comes to Barry Ferguson at least, fans are not convinced the ex-Clyde, Alloa and Kelty Hearts manager has the credentials.

Barry Ferguson to meet with Rangers
Reports broke overnight suggesting that Barry Ferguson is set to be offered the Rangers manager’s job on a short-term basis.
This has since been backed up by suggestions the Rangers board’s first choice option, ex-Gers manager Steven Gerrard, is out of the club’s financial reach.
Links to Barry Ferguson have intensified this morning with TalkSPORT host Jim White claiming the 47-year-old is set to meet with Patrick Stewart over the vacant Ibrox gig.
The Rangers board are looking to construct a special backroom team which will lead the club until the end of the season.
Rangers fans split on Barry Ferguson reports
Rangers fans have been reacting to those links to Barry Ferguson on social media and it’s fair to say the move has very much split supporters.
The general consensus is one of anxiety, with plenty of Rangers fans not convinced that Ferguson is the man to get this underperforming team playing this season.
One supporter branded the move as a ‘questionable’ choice and openly criticised the board’s decision making.
Another joked the scenario is like ‘Benny Hill’ with a large proportion of Rangers fans a little lost with the suggestion Baz could take the reins.
That said, there are plenty of Rangers supporters who’re open to the idea, although not all of them for Ferguson’s managerial credentials:
One supporter asked fans that whilst Ferguson might not be an ‘ideal manager’, if the players won’t play for a Rangers legend at Rangers ‘then why even bother trying?’
Whilst fans, at least online, are split around 80/20 against Ferguson getting the gig, others are seeing the bright side.
