All the focus is on who Rangers will bring in to replace manager Philippe Clement after the Belgian was relieved of his duties in Glasgow.

Rangers have officially confirmed Philippe Clement’s departure following the abysmal 2-0 Scottish Premiership defeat to St Mirren at Ibrox.

The writing was on the wall for the 51-year-old after the shock defeat, which is the first time Saints have won at Ibrox since 1991, amid a disastrous domestic season in Glasgow.

But with pride and a Champions League place still to fight for in Scotland, not to mention the Europa League, fans are desperate to know the club’s plans for the rest of the campaign.

Rangers could strike manager deal within 24 hours

Rangers are expected to act quickly as they look to replace Philippe Clement at Ibrox.

The Gers have an upcoming match with Kilmarnock at Rugby Park on Wednesday evening with that glamour clash v Fenerbahce under a fortnight away.

Reports earlier in the day had suggested Rangers are ‘in talks’ with Steven Gerrard over a legendary return to Ibrox Stadium.

But the Daily Record are now reporting it’s another legendary British midfielder of a bygone era who is set to be handed the reins at Rangers.

Former Rangers captain Barry Ferguson is reportedly closing in on a sensational return to Ibrox almost 16 years after leaving the club in 2009.

The report claims that Ferguson, 47, is to be ‘offered’ caretaker charge of Rangers until the end of the season with a permanent boss decided then.

The deal appears to be some way down the line with the report claiming Barry Ferguson could complete the move to Rangers ‘within 24 hours’.

Barry Ferguson to become Rangers manager?

Barry Ferguson is obviously an iconic figure in the history of Rangers but the former Ibrox captain’s managerial credentials are not quite so glowing.

Having taken caretaker charge of Blackpool in 2014, Ferguson has only managed full-time in the Scottish lower leagues, cutting his teeth with Clyde, Kelty Hearts and then Alloa Athletic.

The former Rangers star is a columnist for the Daily Record so the outlet is certainly well placed to give an update on Ferguson’s situation.

Whilst fans will be sceptical of Ferguson’s recent managerial exploits, the midfielder was the club’s captain the last time Rangers won the treble in 2003.

Only this week was Ferguson giving his two-cents on the proposed 49ers Enterprises takeover and what it means in the battle with Celtic.
