Rangers dealt significant blow ahead of crunch Motherwell clash

Rangers have been dealt a significant blow ahead of their important league clash with Motherwell, with Borna Barisic set to miss out due to injury.

After starting five games in a row at left-back, Barisic mysteriously dropped out of the squad entirely for the midweek draw with Aberdeen.

Clive Tyldesley then explained during the RangersTV coverage of the match that the 28-year-old had picked up a ‘very minor injury’.

An update has now been provided by Steven Gerrard, who suggested that the Croatia international won’t be back in action until next week’s must-win Europa League clash with Brondby at the earliest.

“Borna has a small issue at the moment and I think he will be out for the weekend, also,” he said [Glasgow Times]

“Hopefully, we will have him around for the Brondby game.”

The loss of Barisic is a blow to Rangers and ensures that they’ll be going into an important league game with only one fit natural left-back.

Calvin Bassey has generally done well when called upon this season, though, offering pace and power on the flank.

His crosses aren’t yet of the same standard as those produced by an in-form Borna, but he’ll be determined to help keep a clean sheet on Sunday and to get off the mark in terms of Premiership goal contributions.

In other news, the referee has been confirmed for Rangers vs Motherwell and the Gers have a fantastic record when he’s in charge.
